Alan - Witty, intellectual, a friend to all, a lover of life, a big personality

Alan,

A life full of gusto, great sense of humour, a life full of memories and things to report. Who achieved success, laughed often, much loved and an inspiration to us all. Alan would do anything for anyone, his actions were kind, a generous hand and an active mind a man who was renowned for being the most eloquent and engaging speaker. He meant so much to all of us, he was special that’s no lie, he brightened up the darkest day, and the cloudiest sky.
Alan was open, welcoming, friendly, generous and giving, and he made many friends in many walks of life. A lifelong animal lover with his dogs Fido & Timor. He had wide interests stretching from literature, ballet, classical music, opera, art, history and many more.
Alan gained many, many friends for life, who loved him dearly that I’m sure. Whether it be a moan, a cry, or a random rant Alan had no qualms he would listen, and be patient, and always know what to say and inevitably he would never fail to brighten up your day. He’d never ever forget anybody’s name even their pets names, how he did it I will never know.

Alan loved to travel, not only through his work in law publishing to Nigeria, Kenya, but for holidays all over Europe and further, sometimes spending three or four times a year travelling. I will always treasure the memories of our holidays to Greece, Spain and many, many more. He’d talk to anyone on holiday, shout ’Yammas’ to those near or afar and also try to speak the language wherever he went, making sure he knew how to order the local drinks being his main priority especially vino and scotch. 😀

This cruel disease took Alan so quickly, and like in the Alan way he fought it with such courage and dignity all the way through, even while I was with him up to his last day. A life cut too short, but now out of pain and happy and in peace, reunited with his mum & dad. Alan will be great missed by myself , his sister Kathryn, niece Emma, the rest of his family and his great neighbor Sue and all his friends.

Alan you will be forever loved and missed greatly, it’s never goodbye, it’s a thank you for being in my life and leaving me with great memories.
